When you stay at our oceanfront hotel in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, you can’t help but want to walk along the shore in search of seashells. Sand dollars in particular are an exciting find, so we’d like to share with you a few tips on finding sand dollars along the coast.
Understanding the tide schedule is especially important to finding sand dollars, as low tide is the best time to find them. If there’s a particular area where you have some luck, return to that area at every low tide, as there could be a bed nearby. After a storm or hurricane is always a good time to look, even in high tide areas where debris could have been pushed upwards. And sand dollars are particularly fragile, so bring along a bowl lined with a cloth or paper towel so you can lay them out individually to avoid breakage.

While I am keenly aware how hard we work and strive to provide the very best at what we do, I was still completely taken by surprise. This is a very helpful website, if you are going to be vacationing on or near Ocean Isle Beach, NC. There are sections for Ocean Isle Beach dining, golf, real estate (rentals & purchases), attractions, etc. This is one power house guide of information.
Granted, at my current level of pride & humility, for both myself and the entire staff, I might be a little euphorically buzzed with a bias, but you should check out this site if you love OIB or plan on visiting!
By far the greatest attribute about vacationing in Ocean Isle Beach, NC is that you never run out of things to do! This is especially true about golf. While yours truly is not the greatest golfer (an 80s or 90s are a great day) I most certainly have my favorite. Hands down that is The Pearl, just a 10 to 12 minute drive from us here at the beach. With two 18 holes courses to choose from, you can play twice.
While visiting with us here at The Islander Inn in Ocean Isle Beach, NC there are lots of attractions to see and do, besides just the beach! One of our favorites is the Battleship USS North Carolina memorial, a 30 minutes drive into Wilmington, NC.
This attraction is perfect for kids of all ages, and provides a detailed glimpse into a prominent part of American History. While you are there, check out historic downtown Wilmington, take a horse drawn carriage tour, or take the famous after dark ghost walking tour!
